Case Study 1: Strategic Site Planning for a New Build

house reposition sketch plan labelled.jpg

Project Overview:

A developer sought to transform a challenging plot into a high-value residential property.

The site, marked by an existing house and barns slated for demolition, required careful consideration of its topography, as it sloped down by over 7 meters from north to south.

My role was to provide strategic landscape advice on the optimal placement for a new build and to design a garden that would maximize the plot's full potential.

The Challenge:

The primary challenge was to respect the natural 7-meter elevation drop while positioning the new house to take full advantage of the stunning southerly views.

Concurrently, the design needed to incorporate effective screening to the east, where the site's main entrance was located, to ensure privacy.

Finding a balanced solution that addressed both the slope and the need for strategic view management was crucial to maximizing the property's value.

My Solution:

I explored different scenarios for the house's position, illustrating the pros and cons of each with early-stage sketch plans.

This process helped to identify the most commercially advantageous and aesthetically pleasing option.

Outcome:

The chosen position not only maximized the size and privacy of the new garden, but also strategically leveraged the plot’s natural slope to capitalize on the southern views.

The final design, presented with a detailed sketch plan, demonstrates a premium finish that will significantly increase the property's market value.
