Case Study 3: Residential Flats Car Park & Amenity Space Design
Project Overview:
This project involved designing a functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space for a new development of first-time buyer flats.
The brief required a design that could successfully integrate two distinct uses: a communal outdoor entertaining space and 14 car parking spaces at the rear of the property.

The Challenge:
The primary challenge was balancing the demand for a social amenity with the need for a practical parking solution.
The design had to accommodate a specific number of vehicles while ensuring clear access for both cars and residents.
Key constraints included designing 4 tandem parking spaces to meet the brief's requirements, and ensuring that access to the bin store was never blocked.

My Solution:
My design focused on creating a solution that was not only highly functional but also a valuable amenity for residents.
I developed a design that balanced the need for robust hardscaping for parking with thoughtful planting and soft landscaping for the communal area.
The layout was meticulously planned to meet the specific parking requirements, including the tandem spaces, while strategically positioning the outdoor entertaining area to create a sense of privacy.

Outcome:
The final design successfully transformed a purely utilitarian space into a functional and beautiful extension of the residents’ homes.
The outcome is a car park that is both highly efficient and a valuable asset to the residential property, demonstrating that even a car park can be designed with elegance, care, and a focus on enhancing the daily lives of its users.
